Everything you need to know about Double Vision

Double vision occurs when a person sees a double image where there should only be one. The two images can be side by side, on top of one another, or both.
The condition can affect balance, movement, and reading ability.
- Squint-Paralytic squints and after surgical correction of squint in few cases can cause double vision.
- Convergence insufficiency
- Thyroid dysfunction
- Myasthenia gravis
- Brain tumors
A common cause of binocular double vision is a squint or strabismus.
This occurs when the eyes are not properly aligned. Strabismus is relatively common in children. However, the condition does not always result in double vision.
Children cannot always express what they see, and this can make diagnosis difficult.
Physical signs of double vision include:
1) Squinting or narrowing the eyes to see.2) Covering one eye with their hand.
3) Turning their head in an unusual way.
4) Looking at objects from the side rather than facing forward.
Depending on the cause, the treatments for binocular vision vary, but they include:
1) wearing glasses2) Eye exercises.
3) Wearing an opaque contact lens.
4) Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections into the eye muscles, causing them to remain relaxed.
5) Wearing an eye patch.
6) Surgery on the muscles of the eye to correct their positioning.
